Soccer Australia: Anti-doping Policy Infraction N
Wednesday, 19 March 2003

Soccer Australia today confirmed that the Australian Sports Drug Agency (ASDA) has advised that following a sample provided for drug testing by a female soccer player on Monday 9 December 2002, a positive test result has been returned.

ASDA has advised that a positive test result was returned for the presence of a banned anabolic agent, Nandrolone.
In accordance with Soccer Australia's Anti-Doping Policy, the female player has been advised of the nature and particulars of the alleged Doping Offence, including notification of the appropriate sanction should the Doping Offence be established.
The female player has the option to request that this matter be referred to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a hearing.  Soccer Australia has received a request from the female player in writing that she will require a CAS hearing, the date of which is yet to be set.
Should the Doping Offence be deemed to have been committed, the female player will be subject to sanction in accordance with Clause 8 of the Soccer Australia Anti-Doping Policy, which provides for a suspension for two years for a first offence.
Soccer Australia has adopted the Anti-Doping Policy in compliance with the Australian Olympic Committee and Australian Sports Commission requirements.
Soccer Australia will make no further comment on this issue at this stage.
