A-League preview: Glory v Victory

A-League preview: Glory v Victory

Melbourne Victory is looking to bounce back when it faces Perth Glory in the Hyundai A-League on Saturday.

Summary

Victory is on a five-match losing streak after going down to the Central Coast Mariners in a thrilling clash.

Marco Rojas twice gave Victory the lead at Jubilee Stadium, but Dylan Ruiz-Diaz’s late brace saw the Mariners snatch a 3-2 win.

It continued a fine run of form for Rojas, who has scored four goals and provided two assists in nine league games since returning to the club in January.

Birkan Kirdar, 18, and Josh Hope, 22, assisted Rojas’ double in the defeat, while goalkeeper Matt Acton produced a fine performance.

Victory was without Andrew Nabbout (ankle) for the clash with the Mariners, but the forward is expected to be available for the meeting with Perth at Jubilee Stadium.

Anthony Lesiotis also picked up an injury in training ahead of facing Central Coast, while Storm Roux was substituted in the first half.

With two games remaining in its league season, Victory will finish ninth on the table, while Perth sits fifth.

What they said

“We spoke as a group after the Mariners game and just said, ‘Look, these next two games we’ve got to really just bring some pride back into the club, it’s about going out there, putting on two really good performances and trying to get some results.’ We’re going out there to try and win the matches and trying to finish the season on a positive note.” – Victory goalkeeper Acton.
