A-League preview: Sydney v Victory

Jacob Butterfield

Melbourne Victory is looking to build on its win over the Wanderers when it visits Sydney FC in the A-League on Tuesday.

Summary

In Steve Kean’s first game as interim head coach, Victory held on for a thrilling 5-4 win over Western Sydney on Friday.

Victory was 5-1 up with less than 15 minutes remaining before closing out its win.

The result marked Victory’s second win in three games, and came as its attack stepped up at Marvel Stadium.

While he had a penalty saved, Jake Brimmer assisted goals for Storm Roux and Ben Folami from corners, while another led to Callum McManaman setting up Dylan Ryan.

Folami scored a brace as he netted his first A-League goals, while Jacob Butterfield produced a sensational effort from distance.

Victory, which has announced Tony Popovic will formally take over as head coach in July, makes the trip to Jubilee Stadium to take on Sydney.

The only fresh injury concern for Victory after the win over the Wanderers was a calf complaint for Leigh Broxham.

However, Kean’s squad will be without McManaman, Brimmer and Robbie Kruse, all of which are serving a one-match suspension.
