A-League preview: Victory v Wanderers

Jake Brimmer

Steve Kean will take charge of Melbourne Victory for the first time in Friday’s A-League clash against the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Summary

Kean was named interim head coach of Victory on Monday, following the exit of Grant Brebner.

He will lead Victory into a meeting with the Wanderers at Marvel Stadium.

Victory is coming off a 7-0 Derby loss to City, with the club mutually agreeing to part ways with Brebner following the defeat.

Adama Traore was sent off in the first half of the loss at AAMI Park.

In a boost, Leigh Broxham and Rudy Gestede resumed training this week as they aim to return from injury against the Wanderers.

Victory is still without centre-back Ryan Shotton and attacker Marco Rojas.

What they said

“I understand the frustration of fans. A club this size and this stature, it’s understandable for the fans to be hurting. The players are hurting, the staff, everybody involved with the club and we hope that that hurt turns into energy and with that energy we can turn that into performances and with performances we can hopefully get points.” – Kean.
