Acton hits the ground running in pre-season

Acton hits the ground running in pre-season

Marco Kurz has made an immediate impact in the first few weeks of pre-season at Melbourne Victory, according to goalkeeper Matthew Acton.

Kurz was appointed Head Coach of Victory at the end of June and has wasted no time in making his mark at his new club.

A couple of weeks into pre-season, Acton said Kurz’s first impression has been a good one.

“Pre-season has been really good so far, the new manager has brought new ideas and new structures so we have been working really hard on that,” Acton said.

“Obviously the training is tough this time of year but the boys are really enjoying working hard and building to what we want to be a strong year ahead.

“Personally, I like the way the manager has approached the job in the first few weeks and I only have positive impressions so far. I think the boys are really buying into his methods and thoughts.”

The off-season break brought with it a significant milestone for the Acton family, with the safe arrival of Matt and Shannon’s second daughter, Bloom.

“The break was good, I spent it with my family in Melbourne.

“My wife gave birth to our second daughter so it was great being able to spend time with them at home before coming back for pre-season. It’s been fantastic so far watching her grow.”

There will also be plenty of new faces in the Victory squad over the next few weeks, with Marco Kurz working hard to recruit players ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Acton says the focus will be on working to integrate these players into the group as quickly as possible.

“It’s always exciting when new faces come into the squad, it’s about helping them adapt to how we do things here at the club and showing them the way forward.

“I guess from a player’s perspective, everyone is starting from scratch with the new manager and new players so it will be a really exciting pre-season.

“It’s about us gelling as quickly as possible not only on the field but also off it, which I think is equally as important.”
