Melbourne Victory defender Adrian Leijer is set to miss up to four weeks of football, with scans confirming the injury he sustained late in Saturday night-s win over Central Coast Mariners is far more serious than first thought.

After visiting a specialist in Melbourne this morning, it was revealed the 27-year-old had sustained a fractured eye-socket, a fractured cheekbone, as well as a fracture to his nose.

Leijer was kicked to the face in the 94th minute of Saturday-s 3-1 win and was forced off the pitch after coming on as a late substitute only minutes earlier.

The club will provide further updates on his recovery over the coming weeks.
