Melbourne Victory can today confirm it has been fined US$5,000 by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for breaching Article 67 (1) and (3) of the AFC Disciplinary Code, following the discharge of a flare at our AFC Champions League qualifier in Geelong in February.

The lighting of the incendiary device occurred prior to the commencement of the qualifier, inside the stadium, and the AFC have warned the club that any further incident like this throughout the competition will result in a more serious penalty.

The club will continue to work with stadium management at all of our venues, as well as security, Police and fans to reduce the risk of a repeat of this incident, and all parties will maintain the continued vigilance in demonstrating zero tolerance of this type of behaviour.
