Belief, trust high among playing group – Berisha

Hat-trick hero Besart Berisha says his teammates will never give up, after twice coming from behind to win in emphatic circumstances in Saturday’s Melbourne Derby.

The Albanian netted three goals in the 5-2 triumph over cross-town rivals, Melbourne City, in front of sold-out Etihad Stadium.

“This was my first real derby, and it was a great feeling, it was a fantastic game and what an atmosphere – it makes you realise how good it is to be a football player,” Berisha said.

“The way the boys played, coming back from a goal down twice. It’s great character we showed. In the end to win 5-2, it’s something the boys really deserve.”

While Berisha said the playing group wasn’t getting ahead of itself, there was real belief amongst the group that they could achieve the ultimate success this season.

“If we keep going and playing like this with this mentality, we have, of course, a good chance (at winning the title).

“We are still unbeaten – we haven’t lost any games since the pre-season started.

“I come here to win trophies, winning last year (with Brisbane), it just left something, I really want to do it again.

“It’s hard work (but) I think I’m in a club who works really hard and who really want to win a trophy and achieve something.”
