What: Boca Juniors and Melbourne Victory
When: Thursday July 15, 2010 at 12:30pm
Where: Federation Square

Regarded as one of the biggest clubs in the world, this trip will be Boca Juniors- first to Australia in its 105 year history. In that time they have won a record 18 international competitions, equal to the feats of Italian giants AC Milan. While domestically they have won 23 national titles – second only to great rivals River Plate (33).

Boca Juniors has had a long standing rivalry with fellow Buenos Aires based club, River Plate. Known as ‘The Superclasico- it is one of the fiercest and most important derbies in world sport – with very little separating the two after more than 300 encounters.

The great Diego Maradona helped put Boca on the world sporting stage. In his first season at the club, the man widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, scored 28 goals in 40 appearances and it wasn-t long before some of Europe-s biggest clubs came knocking.

After a short stint in Spain with Barcelona, Maradona moved to Italy where he dominated at Serie A club Napoli for the best part of a decade, winning 5 trophies in the process. In 1986 Maradona led Argentina to victory at the World Cup and was awarded the Golden Ball for the tournaments best player.
