Brebner’s update on 2020/21 squad

Brebner’s update on 2020/21 squad

Melbourne Victory Head Coach Grant Brebner on Wednesday revealed that the A-League club had agreed terms with two players from Europe, ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Brebner said he has a midfielder and a winger who will sign for Victory, pending a successful visa application.

“It has been an extremely busy period, we have had to do a lot of work in the background and I know there has been a bit of silence in terms of communication from the club,” Brebner said.

“We can put a little bit of that to bed and give our members and fans a bit more assurance. I have managed to secure a couple of players and agreed [terms] with two players from Europe.

“Positionally, we are looking at a midfielder that has signed for us … and a player in the front third as well, a winger.

“The announcement around them will be in due course once we secure that visa application.”

Brebner also revealed that re-signing news was imminent and on Thursday the club announced that goalkeeper Matt Acton had put pen to paper on a new three-year deal.

“In the next few days there will be announcements around re-signings.

“That process literally started during and immediately after the hub in Sydney.

“I think what everyone saw is that we have a really good nucleus of young players coming through and we wanted to secure them, which we have done.

“There has been a bit of upheaval but certainly the players that I have identified that I want to retain are not going to just be here for the journey, they are going to make sure that, with the players arriving, we are back up at the top end of the table come May/June next year.”
