Melbourne Victory has received a welcome boost ahead of its U-NITE match against Sydney FC, with star midfielder Carlos Hernandez set to play at Etihad Stadium this Friday.

Hernandez is not required to travel for Costa Rica’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers on October 10 and 14, paving the way for him to face Melbourne Victory’s fierce rival.

“Carlos is playing his best football in three years with Melbourne Victory and it’s a massive bonus to have him available for our blockbuster U-NITE match against Sydney FC,” Melbourne Victory Coach Ernie Merrick said.

“Costa Rica has a new Brazilian coach in Rene Simoes, who has made several changes and selected Carlos in an extended squad, and thankfully for Melbourne Victory he does not have to travel.”

Costa Rica currently sits fourth in the final stage of CONCACAF qualifying for South Africa 2010, with matches against Trinidad and Tobago and USA to determine the Ticos fate.

Hernandez has played in all but one of Melbourne Victory’s matches this season, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
