Melbourne Victory wishes to advise that midfielder Carlos Hernandez won-t be returning for a sixth Hyundai A-League season.
The club has spent considerable time negotiating with Carlos, but ultimately it was unable to agree to terms.
Since joining the club in 2007, the 30 year-old made 122 appearances and played a pivotal role in helping Melbourne Victory win the Premiership/Championship double during just his second season. A year later he was crowned the Johnny Warren Medallist after a stellar campaign that produced 13 goals, as the club made it all the way to the Grand Final.
Hernandez joined Melbourne Victory from Costa Rican club, LD Alajuelense, and quickly cemented himself as a fan favourite and one of the premier attacking midfielders in the Hyundai A-League.
The Costa Rican scored 36 goals in five seasons, collecting both the club-s 2009/10 and 2011/12 ‘Golden Boot- awards along the way.
Melbourne Victory Coach, Ange Postecoglou, said, “The club engaged in discussions with Carlos, but couldn-t reach agreement and will now move in a different direction.”
“This provides some clarity for us to seek out and secure key players with our remaining visa spots.”
