A Melbourne Derby full of missed chances looked like ending in a 1-all draw, until Archie Thompson stepped in with an unforgettable last minute chip to secure the points.

Both sides had plenty of opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net in the first half, but several gilt-edged chances were missed throughout the early stages at a packed AAMI Park.

Melbourne Victory eventually opened the scoring through Marco Rojas in the 61st minute, but the cross-city opponents were able to hit back through former Victory star Fred, who equalised in the 81st minute.

As the game went into injury time and with a draw looming, Adama Traore superbly robbed Heart’s David Williams of possession, before finding Rojas who played a delightful through-ball to Thompson. The rest, as they say, is history.
