Deng nominated for Young Footballer of the Year award

Deng nominated for Young Footballer of the Year award

Thomas Deng has been named as the final nominee for the Hyundai A-League NAB Young Footballer of the Year 2017/18 Award.

Deng, who scored a stunning volley for Victory in its Round 25  win over Western Sydney Wanderers FC at AAMI Park, joins Bruce Kamau and Daniel Arzani (both Melbourne City FC), Daniel De Silva (Central Coast Mariners), Joseph Champness (Newcastle Jets), and Christopher Ikonomidis (Western Sydney Wanderers FC), as a nominee for the award.

While Deng has performed consistently this campaign, towards the completion of the regular season he proved himself to be an integral member of Melbourne’s squad as they secured their sixth consecutive Hyundai A-League Finals Series berth.

Deng started every match for Victory in the March/April nomination window, helping Kevin Muscat’s men to an impressive four wins from six games.

The Hyundai A-League NAB Young Footballer of the Year 2017/18 Award will be announced at the Dolan Warren Awards Night at The Star in Sydney on Monday, 30 April 2018.

Each month representatives from the FFA Technical Department vote on a 3-2-1 basis for the most outstanding U23 players in the Hyundai A-League during that period.
