Melbourne Victory captain Natasha Dowie equalled the club’s Westfield W-League goalscoring record with her strike against the Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday night.

Dowie struck in the 63rd minute to help Victory earn a 1-1 draw at Lakeside Stadium.

The goal was her 14th in 23 appearances for the club, seeing her draw level with Caitlin Friend atop the goalscoring charts.

Victory head coach Jeff Hopkins was full of praise for the star forward.

“I can’t speak highly enough of her. She’s always there, always on the end of things,” he said.

“The service she got today was pretty varied but whatever she gets, she always seems to be able to make something of it, whether it’s into her feet, in behind or smashed in at a 100 miles per hour at her chest.

“She’s a good quality player and I’m really glad to have her here.”

Dowie arrived at Victory during the 2015-16 season, scoring twice, before winning the Golden Boot last campaign with nine.

The forward’s goal against the Wanderers marked her third of this season.
