FFA Cup Round of 16 Preview: Tuggeranong United

FFA Cup Round of 16 Preview: Tuggeranong United

Melbourne Victory is on the road again, as the Club heads to the nation’s capital for its next Westfield FFA Cup clash.

Kevin Muscat’s men will face Tuggeranong United, a team that will be familiar for one of Victory’s stars.

Carl Valeri spent plenty of time at the club as a junior and is one of the Tuggeranong’s favourite sons.

But the Socceroo won’t be taking this game lightly, knowing that only a win will do for Muscat’s men in the knockout competition.

The match, which will be broadcast live and exclusive on Fox Sports is set to be an exciting match up.

All five players who were away from the club during the recent international window are available for selection, with skipper Mark Milligan, Valeri, Kiwi Kosta Barbarouses and Young Socceroos Scott Galloway and Jordan Brown all returning to Melbourne over the weekend.

The only injury concern for Victory remains that of Nick Ansell, with the young defender set for a possible return in Round 1 of the Hyundai A-League.

Victory’s NPL opponents, affectionately known as the ‘Tuggies’,  have been a part of the capital’s football scene since 1976. This Cup clash will be played at Viking Park, which is about 20 minutes south of the capital’s CBD.

Tuggeranong qualified for the FFA Cup after winning the 2013 ACT Federation Cup. Their path to the Round of 16 was a thrilling one, after finishing level with Tasmanian side South Hobart after extra-time in the Round of 32. The match went to penalties and it was the Tuggies who made it through, despite being drawn away from home.

The side will no doubt be riding the momentum from an exciting win, but Muscat’s men will no doubt be on their game as Victory eye FFA Cup silverware.
