Grand Final rematch set for Launceston

Melbourne Victory will return to Launceston for the fourth time in as many years when it hosts Adelaide United in a Grand Final rematch at Aurora Stadium on Sunday, July 26 (kick off 1pm).

Melbourne Victory CEO Geoff Miles said the club is expecting another strong show of support in Tasmania, with nearly 20,000 people having attending the club-s three previous matches at Aurora Stadium.

“We have received fantastic support over the past three years in Tasmania and are really looking forward to returning to Launceston to play in front of what we hope will be another terrific crowd,” Miles said.

“Football continues to grow in Tasmania and we-re thrilled to be able host Adelaide United in a Grand Final rematch at Aurora Stadium.”

Tasmania-s best footballers will also be on show, with men-s (kick off 10.10am) and women-s (kick off 3.15pm) representative matches between the Northern and Southern Premier Leagues to be played on either side of the Grand Final rematch.

Despite defeating Adelaide in this year-s Grand Final, Melbourne Victory is yet to overcome its South Australian rival at Aurora Stadium, having recorded a draw and two losses in its previous encounters at the venue.

The friendly will be Melbourne Victory-s final before its Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season opener against Central Coast Mariners at Etihad Stadium on Thursday, August 6 (kick off 8pm).
