Melbourne Victory Football Club is excited to announce Westfield W-League star Gulcan Koca has been appointed to the role of Community Football Coordinator.

Koca, 25, who has been a member of the club’s Westfield W-League team for the past six seasons and has 16 international appearances for Turkey to her name, has been appointed to the new role to develop football at schools and clubs which Melbourne Victory works closely with in the community. Koca will be an ambassador and role model for young girls in football.

Melbourne Victory CEO Ian Robson said the appointment is a natural advancement of the club’s already active community football program.

“Gulcan’s appointment reinforces our commitment to enhancing our presence in the community, in particular in clubs and schools and in turn, doing what we can to grow the sport of football,” Robson said.

“Our community team works extremely hard to engage with as many people as possible at grassroots level. To be able to share the experiences and expertise of Gulcan is a positive outcome for our club.”

Koca, who began her junior career at the Dingley Junior Soccer Club at the age of nine, said she is thrilled to be working with young aspiring footballers.

“It has been so enjoyable playing for Melbourne Victory and I feel honoured to be able to now work at such a professional club in a role encouraging junior development which is a passion of mine,” Koca said.

“There are so many opportunities to grow football in Victoria and I look forward to sharing my experiences and influencing existing players to improve while also encouraging young people to take up our great sport.”
