Melbourne Victory head coach Jeff Hopkins was proud of his team after its 1-1 draw against the Western Sydney Wanderers.

A fine goal from Natasha Dowie cancelled out Susan Phonsongkham’s opener at ANZ Stadium on Friday.

Hopkins praised his team, which was left in seventh on the table, for pushing hard for a win in Sydney.

“I’m really proud of the girls. The season was on the line here and they gave everything they had, just didn’t have quite enough there at the end,” he told Fox Sports.

“Every credit to the goalkeeper (Jada Mathyssen-Whyman), pulled out a great grab out of the air in the last minute.”

Hopkins said his team would continue pushing late in the season, with matches against Sydney FC and Adelaide United to come.

“I think everyone knows the competition has got a lot better this year, we’ve definitely improved on last year and we’ve improved on our points tally,” he said.

“We’re just going to keep accumulating points for the last two games.

“I don’t want anyone at Melbourne Victory, in our squad, to think the season is over because it’s definitely not.”
