The accolades keep coming for retired Melbourne Victory defender Matthieu Delpierre, who has been voted the club’s 2016 AFC Champions League Most Valuable Player.

Delpierre was a clear winner of the award, polling 25 votes to win by 11 from captain Carl Valeri and forward Kosta Barbarouses, who was a further vote behind in third place.

The votes for the ACL MVP were independently cast on a 3-2-1 basis by head coach Kevin Muscat and assistant coach Rado Vidosic after every ACL game, including the Round of 16 matches.

Delpierre, who also won the 2015/16 Victory Medal and TAC Players’ Player of the Season award, polled votes in all but one of the eight games Victory played in Asia’s premier club competition.

Valeri’s second-place finish was impressive given he only made four ACL appearances after returning from illness in April.
