Melbourne Victory has appointed leading sports administrator, Ian Robson, as Chief Executive Officer following Richard Wilson-s decision to step down.

Melbourne Victory Chairman, Mr Anthony Di Pietro, said the Club had decided to appoint Mr Robson after undertaking a thorough process to identify the best person to lead it into the future.

“Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce Ian Robson as our new Chief Executive. Ian has global experience in sports administration roles across two codes most recently, Essendon Football Club, but also the Hawthorn Football Club, Auckland Warriors, SuperLeague and SportsScotland in the UK,” Mr Di Pietro said.

“Ian brings a great enthusiasm for the role of sport in the community, as well as experience at the CEO level in elite sport, and will be a valuable asset to the club as we look to build on the solid foundations laid over the past 18 months.

“We have been through a thorough process, engaging with a number of parties, giving us complete confidence that Ian is both suitable and extremely well qualified for the role.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank outgoing Managing Director, Richard Wilson. We-re very pleased with the contribution he has made over the past two and a half years, and confident that his contribution to the strategic plan will support the future growth of the club,” Mr Di Pietro added.

Speaking from overseas, where he is holidaying with his family, Mr Robson expressed his delight at being appointed.

“Melbourne Victory is a really exciting club in what is an extremely competitive sporting landscape, so I was immediately interested in exploring the possibility of a new challenge,” Mr Robson said.

“Having spent many years working across other codes, I feel privileged now to have the opportunity to be involved in the world game with a great club like Melbourne Victory.

“Melbourne Victory is the benchmark of the Hyundai A-League and I-m looking forward to working with the Board of Directors, as well as the staff, to drive the club into new and exciting places,” Mr Robson added.

Ian Robson will commence his role as Melbourne Victory Chief Executive Officer on Monday, August 5.
