Melbourne Victory duo Mark Milligan and James Troisi helped the Caltex Socceroos qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday night.

Milligan, 32, played a key role in midfield before being replaced by Victory team-mate Troisi in the 89th minute of the 3-1 win over Honduras in Sydney.

The result, which came thanks to a Mile Jedinak hat-trick, sealed Australia’s place at Russia 2018 after a 3-1 aggregate success.

Ange Postecoglou’s men needed a marathon 22 qualifiers to reach the showpiece event.

Milligan played in 18 of those matches – starting 16 – while Troisi featured nine times.

Another Victory attacker, Kosta Barbarouses, could help his nation reach the World Cup, with New Zealand facing Peru on Thursday (AEDT) in the second leg of its play-off, which is locked at 0-0.
