Muscat looking forward to Geelong clash

Muscat looking forward to Geelong clash

Melbourne Victory is returning to Geelong and Kevin Muscat can’t wait to take his team back down the highway.

Muscat was at GMHBA Stadium on Thursday to launch the Club’s round 21 match against Newcastle Jets and was quick to reflect on positive memories at the venue.

“[Many] good experiences, we’ve enjoyed coming down in years gone by and it will be good to come back,” Muscat said.

“We’ve been here a number of times and enjoyed some good results. I remember qualifying for the [Asian] Champions League here – which was a memorable night in our history.

“Coming down here has a good feel about it… we’ve averaged about 15-16,000 fans in games we’ve been down as well, so it goes to show how well supported we are here.”

It will be the Club’s sixth competitive fixture at the venue and in all that time there’s one thing that hasn’t changed.

“One thing, from the players’ perspective, they always comment on the surface.

“I’ll be happy to report back to the group that it’s in very, very good condition and allows for good football.

“What [a good surface] does do is allow teams that want to play on the deck the opportunity to do so.

“It’s in very, very good condition and we look forward to coming down, training and putting on a performance worthy of three points.”

One thing fans should look forward to is goals.

20 goals have been scored in the previous five competitive fixtures at the stadium, and Muscat hopes for more of the same.

“It’s certainly delivered some excitement over the years!” Muscat said with a smile.

“[We’ve] had some scorching hot days and lots goals – lots of excitement and the fans have walked away with a good taste in their mouths about the football we’ve produced.

“From my perspective I can speak about the facts, and the facts are every time we’ve come [to Geelong] Melbourne Victory have been well received and supported.

“The general public of Geelong have been great to us.”

Melbourne Victory host Newcastle Jets at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday 2 March. Tickets available now.
