Muscat: We’re getting stronger

Melbourne Victory Head Coach Kevin Muscat is focused on finishing the season with a good performance against Sydney at Allianz Stadium on Friday.

Victory has won five of its last six A-League fixtures and is looking to carry the same momentum into finals.

On facing Sydney…
“It’s a good opportunity to get ourselves in the right frame of mind after last week.

“These games against Sydney are always fierce, competitive and aggressive in the past. We’re going across there with that attitude and mindset.”

On squad selection…
“Yes, everyone is fit. Christian (Theoharous) hasn’t been well the last few days. He is touch and go, but apart from that there are no suspensions and everyone is okay. Christian hasn’t trained over the last 48 hours, so we will have to wait and see.”

On finishing the season positively…
“We feel that we are getting stronger as a team. The last six or seven weeks have been evidence of that. And we will go across (to Sydney) with that in mind. We are getting stronger at the right time of the year, heading into finals.

“But what happens in two weeks cannot be controlled. We can control our outcome from tomorrow night, so that is where the focus is. Like I said, we are getting stronger and stronger.”

On the possibility of finishing third…
“We play first so we’ve got an opportunity to put ourselves in that position (third place). It’s not something that we’ve spoken about or something we’re motivated for. It is just our performance that will give us that opportunity.

“In a game where there has been fireworks and a game that has taken a lot out of players in previous meetings. They are fierce and neither team will take a backward step.”
