Kevin Muscat is not shying away from the importance of the upcoming Derby against Melbourne City on Saturday.

Coming off the back of a win against Brisbane Roar last week, Muscat believes his side will be ready to step up to the occasion and provide the fans with a win.

“This is a big occasion, the Derby pre-Christmas has always been special and we embrace it, we’re looking forward to it,” Muscat said.

“(We’re) just concentrating on ourselves and putting a performance together that the players can be proud of, and if the playing group are proud of a performance, I daresay the fans will be also.”

Mark Milligan’s return gives Victory an extra incentive to be at their best this week.

Muscat is impressed with the effort that Milligan has put into his recovery and is pleased to have him available for the Derby this weekend.

“It’s great for the group, for them to witness how he’s conducted himself over this time to give himself the best chance of being available.

“Millsy has ticked all the boxes and done everything in his power, he has been meticulous in his rehab and he’s available for selection so it’s a real big boost for us.”

Muscat is also really happy with the way that defender James Donachie is recovering after injuring his quad in the Round Two clash with Melbourne City.

“He’s going really well, there’s no timeframe for him at the moment, because I don’t want to restrict him.

“He’ll come into the mix when he’s ready but he’s not far off.”
