NPL preview: Avondale FC v Victory

Melbourne Victory’s PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria side will be aiming to get its campaign back on track when it travels to Knights Stadium to face Avondale FC on Friday night.

Victory’s form has taken a dip in recent weeks, having suffered consecutive defeats against Hume City, Bentleigh Greens and Oakleigh Cannons.

A chance to stem the tide awaits in Melbourne’s west, with Avondale FC standing in its way.

Sitting second from bottom, Avondale secured its maiden win of the season in Round 7 against Northcote City in the dying stages of the match.

Avondale has only mustered four goals to date, while last week’s 1-0 win marked the first time that it has managed to record a clean sheet in 2016.

Coached by Fabrizio Soncin, Avondale has struggled to replicate its remarkable form of 2015, which saw it comfortably avoid the drop in its first season in Victoria’s top flight.

This has been attributed to its change in its game style, which it is continuing to hone.

The change in its home ground from Doyle Street to Knights Stadium will provide significantly more space for Victory’s wingers and full-backs to exploit.

A win for Victory could be enough to see it regain eighth spot in the standings, if results go its way.

Please note, the kick-off time for the match has been changed from 8.15pm to 8.30pm, with the under-20s moved from 6.15pm to 6.30pm.
