NPL preview: Bulleen Lions v Victory

Melbourne Victory will be aiming to come away from David Barro Stadium with three much-needed PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria points when it faces Bulleen Lions on Monday night.

A 2-1 defeat at the hands of Port Melbourne in Round 15 was a bitter blow for Victory , which fought its way back into the match, before eventually succumbing to a late Jamie De Abreu strike.

Jordan Brown found the back of the net, offering encouragement that Victory will have various routes to goal in the absence of now departed former captain Joey Katebian.

They will look to go one better against an inconsistent Bulleen Lions outfit, also in need of a win.

The two teams shared the spoils when they last met in March, with George Howard’s leveller earning his side a point.

Monday’s match looms as a different prospect, with David Barro’s synthethic surface offering a unique challenge for the visitors.

Dominic Barba’s Bulleen side comes into the fixture on the back of a comprehensive 3-0 loss away to Oakleigh, but will remain confident particularly due to its impressive home record.

It has only tasted defeat once at home all season, while it has taken points from South Melbourne, Bentleigh Greens and Hume City on its turf.

The match provides an opportunity for one-time Victory man Christian Cavallo to face his former team after making the switch to the Lions midweek.

A win is essential for a Victory team seeking to move free from the relegation zone.
