Melbourne Victory looks to build on a strong start to the NPL2 West season when it makes the trip to Geelong on Sunday.

Summary

Victory opened its campaign with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Ballarat City in Round 1 at Epping Stadium.

Yazid Said, 19, scored a brace to go with goals from fellow forwards Jack Palazzolo, 18, and Liston Diaz, 17.

Brandon Lauton, 18, assisted two goals from right-back, while Birkan Kirdar, 17, and Said also set up strikes.

The result was enough to move Victory into equal second, with all five winning teams keeping clean sheets in the opening round.

Victory and Geelong, which was beaten by Werribee City in its opener, will meet for the first time in the clash at Stead Park.

Head coach Gareth Naven’s pre-match thoughts

“Any time coming off a good performance, it’s important for our young players. There’s another challenge ahead in Geelong. They got promoted, they’ve got some challenges that they’d obviously like to be in the competition, be very competitive in the competition, stamp their authority so I’m expecting a really tough, competitive, high intensity game against them and we’re out there to do our best all the time.”
