NPL preview: Heidelberg United v Victory

Melbourne Victory will be out to turn the tide when it travels to Melbourne’s north to take on Heidelberg United at Olympic Village on Sunday afternoon.

Victory’s PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria campaign took a hit in Round 12, when it conceded four second-half goals at home to lose 5-2 against Green Gully.

The loss was a bitter pill to swallow, particularly after Victory led early in the second stanza.

Victory can ill afford any such slips this week against a Heidelberg outfit gunning to curtail its own barren run of form, which has seen it go winless since Round 9.

Injuries have plagued George Katsakis’ side in recent weeks, with the Warriors occupying fifth spot in the standings.

Kenny Athiu, Reuben Way and Kaine Sheppard have all been sorely missed, providing Victory with an opportunity to make the most of Heidelberg’s outs.

Heidelberg is another of the PS4 NPL Victoria’s former National Soccer League sides, and it is currently home to former Victory defender Steven Pace.

Its most recent feat on the national stage was reaching the Quarter Finals of the Westfield FFA Cup last year, prior to being knocked out by Melbourne City.

Victory will be aiming for a similar outcome when the teams meet at the same venue on the weekend.
