NPL preview: Northcote City v Victory

Melbourne Victory will be out to revive its PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria season, when it makes the trip to Northcote to face the league’s cellar dwellers at John Cain Memorial Park on Saturday afternoon.

Victory toiled hard in its previous encounter against Heidelberg United but ultimately went down 4-2 to record its second successive loss.

Captain Joey Katebian led from the front, netting on two occasions, though it wasn’t enough to deny the highly-fancied Bergers.

Northcote City is a different prospect for Victory, with both teams desperate to mount a charge from the bottom third of the ladder.

City has endured a difficult season so far, having only collected five points to date in 2016.

It parted ways with former boss Alex Gymnopoulos in April, putting its faith in Goran Lozanovski, who coached Northcote to its famous 2013 Victorian Premier League title.

A player exodus in the aftermath of its championship win has seen Northcote struggle to rekindle its previous reputation as one of Victoria’s most feared teams.

After securing a point in Lozanovski’s first match in charge, City went on to defeat Richmond in Round 10, sparking some hope that it could reverse its fortunes.

Two 5-0 losses at the hands of Green Gully and Bentleigh has since put this into check, giving Saturday’s fixture added importance.
