NPL preview: Oakleigh Cannons v Victory

Melbourne Victory will be looking to square the ledger when it travels to Jack Edwards Reserve to tackle Oakleigh Cannons in Round 20 of the PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria on Friday night.

Victory was undone by a solitary Dusan Bosnjak goal when the two sides last met in April, ensuring Gareth Naven’s side will have plenty of motivation coming into this game.

A brave effort against Bentleigh Greens last week will have boosted Victory’s confidence, despite ultimately coming away with nothing to show for its performance.

Victory was defensively sound for extended periods against Bentleigh, with Chris Theoharous and John Maclean competently leading the line.

A similar display will be required when Victory comes up against the in-form Cannons.

Co-coached by Peter Tsolakis and Con Tangalakis, sixth-placed Oakleigh put the league on notice in Round 19 with a 6-0 battering of Avondale FC at home.

Bosnjak was again among the goals, while Dean Piemonte and Dimitri Hatzimouratis were lethal with a brace each.

That trio will need to be kept in check if Victory is to stand any chance of coming away with a valuable three points.
