NPL preview: Sunshine George Cross v Victory

NPL preview: Sunshine George Cross v Victory

Melbourne Victory heads into its PlayStation 4 NPL2 West clash against Sunshine George Cross on the back of a strong win.

Victory returned to form in Round 22 with a resounding 6-3 success over Box Hill United.

Nicholas Sette scored a hat-trick to go with goals from Nuh Sehavdic, Aleksandar Stanisavljevic and Jonathan Vakirtzis.

Victory head coach Gareth Naven hopes to build on that win, but he expects another tough test.

“Obviously we developed some good success for our players and why not take that into the next game?” he said.

“Sunshine George Cross is going to be similar to every other team, but probably harder, more challenging.

“Everything we tried to achieve last week we definitely have to look to execute better, be more aware, sharper.

“George Cross is a highly competitive team, robust. They’re the teams we’ve encountered the last five, six, seven games that we’ve played.

“I expect it to be very tough on the weekend for our players, but in saying that we’ll definitely be taking the game to them.”

Sette’s treble against Box Hill saw the 17-year-old winger join forward Pierce Waring on nine goals as Victory’s top goalscorers this campaign.

Sunshine sits fourth on the table but was edged 1-0 by Victory when the teams met in March.
