Melbourne Victory was dealt a 5-1 defeat against Dandenong City in the NPL2 West on Sunday at Epping Stadium.

Summary

Despite the final result Victory started the brightest of the two sides, neatly creating a handful of chances in front of goal.

The first fell to Jack Palazzolo who ran the ball wide of the goalkeeper, creating an opportunity from a tight angle. With a defender in his way, Palazzolo could only find the outside of the post.

Nicholas Hatzigeorgiou tried his luck from the edge of the penalty area, but the Dandenong goalkeeper was equal to the midfielder’s effort.

In the 18th minute, the visitors took the lead. With Dandenong’s first effort of the game, Ben Everson found the back of the net from close range.

Ten minutes later, Nuh Sehavdic and Birkan Kirdar combined well to create space for Kirdar. His right-footed shot whistled just wide of the post.

In the 30th minute Tremayne Sadler doubled Dandenong’s lead from a corner, as the visitors continued to make the most of their chances.

Soon after, Majak Mawith pulled off a heroic save to deny Dandenong a third. At full stretch, the Victory goalkeeper tipped the ball onto the crossbar – preventing a belter of a strike from distance.

Despite a host of efforts on goal, Victory trailed by two at the midway stage.

Early into the second half, Dandenong extended their advantage. The Victory defence struggled to clear their lines, as Sadler claimed his second of the match.

Dandenong wasted little time in adding to their tally. Nicholas Kalmar stepped up to a free kick and curled his effort into the near corner, making it 4-0.

Kalmar scored his second and Dandenong’s fifth in the 66th minute. Kalmar picked up possession just inside the Victory half and found the back of the net, catching Mawith off his line.

Victory was rewarded with a consolation goal in the 85th minute, when it applied some high pressure. Sehavdic came out with possession and successfully found the bottom corner with little difficulty.

Under-20s

Victory’s under-20s made it three wins on the bounce with a 4-1 triumph over Dandenong City.
