NPL wrap: Victory downed by Pascoe Vale

A sublime first half from Pascoe Vale was instrumental in Melbourne Victory suffering a 6-0 loss in the PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria at Epping Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

John Vakirtzis was handed the captain’s armband, while Pierce Waring started up front for Victory.

Waring tested the Pascoe Vale goalkeeper in the opening five minutes, but it was the visiting side which wasted little time gaining the ascendancy.

Marino Gasparis was on hand to tuck the ball away after Lucas Spinella did enough to thwart Matthew Lazarides’ initial shot at the front post.

Davey van’t Schip was next to get his name on the scoresheet, chipping the ball over a hapless Spinella.

Gasparis added his side’s third from the penalty spot, before van’t Schip rounded out a resounding half for Vitale Ferrante’s side.

Luca Santilli’s acrobatic effort gave Pascoe Vale its fifth goal of the afternoon, before Joseph Youssef jumped in at the back post to complete the result in injury time.

Victory now turns its attention to its next PS4 NPL Victoria match against Green Gully on Saturday, August 13.

Earlier, Victory’s under-20 team scored in the 76th minute to draw 1-1 against Pascoe Vale.
