Melbourne Victory-s National Youth League team is determined to finish the season in fine form and, in doing so, cement third position when they take on Western Sydney Wanderers this Saturday at Marconi Stadium.

Victory NYL coach Darren Davies is excited but also saddened with the season coming to an end this weekend.

“We-re looking forward to finishing the season off well,” Davies said.

“It-s a disappointment for the season to be finishing; we wish we could have this all year round but unfortunately that-s not the case.”

Melbourne Victory-s hectic schedule will once again open the door for the younger players in the squad to step up and stake their claim.

“Hopefully there will be a few train-ons as well as younger boys playing the game so we are looking forward to it.”

Victory’s youth side is coming off a massive 5-2 win against Adelaide United last week at Lakeside Stadium.

The last time Victory faced the Wanderers in round four, the Melbourne boys gave another brilliant performance in a 4-1 win at home.

With the season wrapping up, Davies is quite fond of the achievements of his players this season.

“The next generation is coming through, we-ve already seen Milos Redesic on the bench, Dylan Murnane has progressed to a first team contract this year, and Christopher Cristaldo has obviously played in the first team this year so it’s been good to see,” Davies said.

“They-ve played well this year. We want them to improve but in general it-s been a pleasing season and we look forward to them going away and coming back to us better than before.”

A win here will give Melbourne Victory a perfect end to season, leaving them in third position and full of confidence for the next season of the Foxtel National Youth League.
