Report: Victory 3-0 Adelaide

Melbourne Victory returned to winning ways in resounding fashion in the Hyundai A-League, beating Adelaide United 3-0 on Saturday.

Summary

After a Taylor Regan own goal, Leroy George scored a spectacular free-kick at AAMI Park in the first half.

Dzengis Cavusevic was sent off for the Reds early in the second half, with Besart Berisha getting on the scoresheet thanks to a George assist.

The result ended a five-game winless run for Victory, which moved into fourth on the table.

Victory dictated proceedings in the opening stages and took the lead midway through the first half.

A George cross from the right was met by the head of James Troisi, whose effort snuck past Paul Izzo and went in after Regan hit it against the post in his attempts to clear.

Victory doubled its lead on the half-hour mark thanks to a stunning strike from George.

After being fouled 30 yards from goal, George curled a wonderful free-kick over the wall to make it 2-0.

Victory continued to push to begin the second half as Berisha fired wide after creating space for himself inside the area.

Adelaide was reduced to 10 men soon after, Cavusevic given his marching orders for making contact with Rhys Williams’ face.

Victory quickly made the most of the numerical advantage, Berisha beating Izzo to make it 3-0 after a pass from George.

George Blackwood headed an opportunity wide for Adelaide, while Lawrence Thomas pushed away a long-range effort from Jordan O’Doherty.

Izzo was forced into a diving save by a long-range Terry Antonis effort, while 19-year-old Pierce Waring came on for his Victory debut late in the win.
