Melbourne Victory Chairman, Geoff Lord today announced that inaugural Board Member and club Director, Richard Wilson would become the club-s interim Managing Director, once outgoing CEO Geoff Miles officially resigns on December 31.

In making the announcement, Mr Lord who has been at the helm of the Hyundai A-League-s most successful club since its inception, said Mr Wilson-s vast experience, both on the Board of Melbourne Victory and as Chairman of his own company, Allbanx, made him the ideal candidate; “Richard has a very good understanding of the business and brings with him very good ideas as to how the club will be shaped into the future.“

“His knowledge of the staff and detail of the business operations will ensure a smooth transition, with Geoff Miles departing at the conclusion of the year” said Mr Lord.

Mr Wilson, who has been involved in the day-to-day running of the club since assuming the position of Commercial Director back in September, brings with him an impressive business acumen having been a major figure in the finance and banking industry for the past 22 years. During his time in the industry, he has made Allbanx one of the most successful franchised mortgage origination businesses in Australia.

“I-m genuinely excited about the challenge of taking both Melbourne Victory the club and Melbourne Victory the brand forward.“ Mr Wilson said.

“Coming from the Board, I-ve understood the club, I-ve grown with the club over the journey, having been part of it for almost 6 years. I understand where it-s been and more importantly where it needs to go.”

At the top of Mr Wilson-s hit-list is finding a new major partner for the club, after long-time supporter Intralot decided against renewing its association beyond the current season.

“That-s certainly going to be my main focus over the coming months. We-ve got a fantastic product and one that is appealing to many different organisations, namely those that want to grow their brand through great exposure on host broadcaster Fox Sports and also numerous domestic and international media outlets.”

“I also want to investigate the reasons for our recent reduced crowd numbers, which has been a concern, but something I-m confident we can rectify.” Mr Wilson added.

Both Mr Lord and Mr Wilson wanted to thank outgoing CEO, Geoff Miles for his fantastic contribution to the club and wished him well in his future endeavours.
