Round 4 preview: Victory v Western United

Round 4 preview: Victory v Western United

Melbourne Victory looks to build on its first win of the season as it begins a rivalry against Western United at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

Summary

Victory recorded its first win of the campaign by overcoming Brisbane Roar 1-0 away from home thanks to an Andrew Nabbout goal.

Nabbout came off with a hamstring injury after opening his account this season before Victory fought hard to hold on for three points, and the attacker has been ruled out of this week’s game.

It seeks to build on that result when it hosts Western United in the first competitive clash between the clubs.

Round 4 tickets

Western United entered the Hyundai A-League this season, although the teams did meet in the lead up to the campaign.

Ola Toivonen scored a brace as Victory ran out 6-0 winners in the pre-season clash in mid-September.

The 33-year-old forward has netted once to begin the Hyundai A-League campaign, while he also provided the assist for Nabbout in Brisbane.

Western United, which has former Victory star Besart Berisha as part of its squad, has collected four points from its opening three games.

What they said

“I think it (the win over Brisbane) was very important with the slow start. It’s increased the vibe around the club for a big week coming up, it was needed, a tough away one, much-needed.” – Victory goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas.
