It’s been a huge off-season for Melbourne Victory Head Coach Kevin Muscat, linking up with the Socceroos in Russia for the Confederations Cup last month.
Muscat was given the Confederations Cup opportunity by his former Melbourne Victory mentor Ange Postecoglou.
“It was great,” Muscat told SEN’s World of Football.
“I’ve known Ange for a long time and had the pleasure of working with him at Victory but to see him in a different environment and watching him and monitoring him, but more so just monitoring the international football side of things.
“Also getting the opportunity to study other nations, Germany, Cameroon and Chile were our opponents and getting to prepare and analyse them and execute a game plan.
“At the same time, watching and reviewing how they went about things was a great learning experience for myself and one that I’m grateful to Ange and the FFA for.”
Muscat revealed the Russia experience reaffirmed his international ambitions.
“I’m not going to sell myself short, I want to manage abroad one day and I want to manage the national side one day.
“But at the moment I’m really comfortable at the football club I work for, and we’ve got some serious goals we want to try and chase in the next 12-24 months.”
“I always tell them (the players) to reach for the stars and never sell themselves short. One thing we’re very good at in this country is telling ourselves we’re not good enough.
