Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas lauded his team’s grit after its 1-0 win over the Newcastle Jets in the Grand Final.

A first-half goal from Kosta Barbarouses at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday was enough to see Victory claim a record fourth Hyundai A-League championship.

Thomas, who made four saves and was awarded the Joe Marston Medal, hailed his side’s bravery after the success.

“It’s been a rollercoaster year – up and down. That performance was a lot of grit,” he told Fox Sports.

“We didn’t play good football on the night but a win’s a win.

“It was in the back of my mind them pinching one like last week, but the boys were incredible.

“We didn’t play great football, but defensively outstanding, ridiculous.”

The Jets were reduced to 10 men late on when Roy O’Donovan caught Thomas with a high boot.
