Ola Toivonen hailed Melbourne Victory’s performance after it claimed a 3-1 win over the Wellington Phoenix at AAMI Park on Friday.

Victory moved into a Semi Final meeting with Sydney FC thanks to its entertaining win against the Phoenix.

Toivonen set up Kosta Barbarouses and sealed the win with a sublime finish after Georg Niedermeier had opened the scoring for Victory.

The Swede, who has scored 14 Hyundai A-League goals this season, praised his side’s performance against a Phoenix team which finished with 10 men.

“It felt good, it felt good, important game and that is what it’s all about and you want to play your best,” Toivonen told Fox Sports.

“Today, I think we did a really good team effort. The gaffer put in a good tactic and I think we followed it to 100 per cent.”

Toivonen produced a wonderful finish for his goal, chipping Phoenix goalkeeper Filip Kurto from a tight angle to make it 3-1.

Talking about his goal, the 32-year-old said he felt he had few other options

“Nine out of 10 (times) the goalkeeper is sliding in front of you, so the chip is always possible,” Toivonen said.

“To be honest, I think it was the only angle I had so it was good.”

Victory will meet the Sky Blues at Jubilee Stadium on Sunday, May 12.
