Victory adds Stefan Nigro to senior squad

Melbourne Victory has added Stefan Nigro to its list of contracted players, with the promising youngster signing a two-year deal.

Nigro is a product of Victory’s youth program and impressed in three senior appearances for the club in 2015/16.

“For a young player making his way in the game, Stefan didn’t look out of place in the senior squad when he was asked to step up this season,” said Victory head coach Kevin Muscat.

“He is a player who is hungry to learn and works hard to get the best out of himself. It was great to see him hold his own at the elite level.

“We’re excited about the further improvement Stefan will make at Victory and look forward to seeing him join the senior squad for the pre-season.”

Nigro arrived at Victory for the 2015 PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria season, where he was a key member of the team which earned promotion to the top division.

The 19-year-old was also a member of the club’s 2015/16 Foxtel National Youth League squad and has made 10 appearances so far in the current NPL campaign.

Nigro made a memorable Hyundai A-League debut in Round 15 against Brisbane Roar, where he started at right-back and got the better of his duel with Thomas Broich.

He played a full 90 minutes in the Round 25 win over Western Sydney Wanderers, and he was back in the senior line-up for the Round 27 draw against Brisbane.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to join the Melbourne Victory senior squad,” Nigro said.

“It was a great experience to play in the A-League this season and get an understanding of what it takes to compete at that level.

“I’m determined to learn from my teammates, continue improving and work hard to make an impact in the A-League next season.”
