Victory celebrates Christmas with members

Melbourne Victory got a jump on the festive season during the Round 7 clash with Adelaide United, celebrating Christmas early with our loyal members.

Marvel Stadium became the setting for ‘A Very Victory Christmas,’ as the Club embraced the season of giving with an appearance from Santa Claus, special invitations, surprise upgrades and even a car giveaway!

Among those who enjoyed an extra special game day experience was the Alexellis family.

Members for 7 years, Peter, Evelyn, Alec and Emma were given the ultimate pitch side experience, taking in all the action from beanbags at ground level, just meters from the touch line with two more lucky families.

“Peter received a phone call yesterday asking if we wanted to upgrade our seats, and we end up here,” said Mum Evelyn.

“This is awesome. Just fantastic,” added Dad Peter. “The kids love it.”

“This is the only team that we all [support], it’s why we became members and we’re here every game. It’s fantastic, it’s something we all look forward to,” said Evelyn.

“They’re the best team in the league, how could we not support them!”

The family affair continued with three generations of the Dimech family charged with delivering the match ball.

Joseph was joined by his son Mark and grandson James to enjoy the pre-match warm-up from within touching distance of the players, before handing the ball over to referees at the start of the match.

“We’ve been with the Club from the very beginning,” said 80-year-old Joseph.

“I love the way we approach the game… we’re a terrific team to watch, always exciting.”

His eyes widened when asked about marquee man Keisuke Honda, saying “he is number one. He just doesn’t waste the ball – he’s always there.”

And Joseph’s experience proved telling when asked to predict the result.

“2-0. If we can take our chances we’ll win.”

The upgrades didn’t stop there, with 10 lucky members invited to enjoy the 2-0 victory in luxury, taking in Ola Toivonen and Kosta Barbarouses’ double act from the A-Lounge.

But the biggest moment of the night arrived when Auto12 members Anna and George won a brand-new Hyundai Accent. Having renewed their memberships on our automatic rollover plan they received a lucky scratchie, which gave them a 1-in-3 chance to win the car.

Picking first out of her fellow finalists, Anna chose one of three keys at random. With the stadium and George holding its breath she proved to have the lucky touch.
