Melbourne Victory has fallen short of an undefeated E-League season, going down to the Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 9 on Thursday night.

With the Premiership secured, Victory had little to play for, and the Wanderers brought their A-game to secure a spot in the E-League finals series.

Returning from a week off to play in the FFA Cup for Kingston City, Mo Zwed was defeated 3-1 in the first leg on XBOX, while Sarge Singh played out a 2-2 draw on PlayStation. This left Victory behind at the break for the first time this season.

Things didn’t get any easier in the second leg, as the Wanderers pushed hard for a finals berth. Sarge once again finished locked at 2-2 despite a dominant performance, while Mo saw a draw slip away in the final moments and lost 3-2.

The 10-7 aggregate loss is only the second time Victory have dropped points this season, and is the first loss of their successful campaign.

All the focus now turns towards the finals series to be contested on Thursday May 9, to determine whether Melbourne Victory can complete the double and take out the E-League Championship.

All the action will be live on Twitch and Fox Sports.
