Melbourne Victory officially launched its AFC Champions League 2008 campaign at Telstra Dome today, revealing its new home and alternative strips, which have been designed especially for Asia-s premier club competition.

Several of Victory-s star players were on hand to model the new strips as excitement builds ahead of the club-s historic first AFC Champions League match against the Chunnam Dragons (Korea Republic) at Telstra Dome on Wednesday, 12 March.

Victory CEO Geoff Miles said the club was expecting great crowds for its three AFC Champions League 2008 home matches, which will also see Chonburi FC (Thailand) and Gamba Osaka (Japan) in action at Telstra Dome.

“Yesterday, we had our first day of sales to our members and we sold over 10,000 tickets to our Platinum and Gold members,” Miles said.

“That probably exceeded our expectations for day one.

“There-s no doubt our members give us magnificent support, and Melbourne-s sporting public have got right behind our club.

“We’re hopeful we can get into the 40,000 range for these games and who knows, we may even be able to sell a game out.

“Anything’s possible here in Melbourne, remembering that these games are international club fixtures.”

The new navy home strip and white alternative strip both feature a gold trim, which was first used by Sydney FC and Adelaide United last year, to symbolise playing in the AFC Champions League.

“It-s something a bit special and we wanted to make a change coming into this prestigious tournament,” Miles added.

A limited number of home strips will be available from the Melbourne Victory Shop, located at 232 Swan Street, Richmond. Call 1300 783 013 or email merchandise@mvfc.com.au for more information.

Tickets for Victory-s three AFC Champions League 2008 home matches are currently on sale to Victory members until Thursday, 21 February, before they go on sale to the general public this Friday, 22 February at 9am.

Tickets are available from Ticketmaster by calling 136 100 or through ticketmaster.com.au.
