Victory names squad for Round 1 trip to Brisbane

Victory names squad for Round 1 trip to Brisbane

Melbourne Victory has named a strong extended 18-man squad for the opening match of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.

Victory will face Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night, with two players to be omitted before kick-off.

It will be a new-look Victory side in Brisbane, with recent signings James Troisi, Alan Baro, Mitch Austin, James Donachie and Alastair Bray all included.

Only Marco Rojas, who is away on international duty with New Zealand, and Rashid Mahazi (illness) are unavailable for Victory.

Victory has enjoyed an unbeaten pre-season stretching back to July, including wins over Juventus and Atletico Madrid.

While Victory has kept a clean sheet in three of its past five matches against Roar, the club has won just two of its past nine games at Suncorp Stadium.

The match will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 505 from 7.00pm AEDT and SBS2 from 7.30pm AEDT.
