Victory names squad to take on Sydney FC

Victory names squad to take on Sydney FC

Melbourne Victory will head to Sydney FC missing a host of big names through international duty, but the squad’s strong depth is expected to be on show.

With national team duty and injuries playing their part in selection decisions for this week, Melbourne Victory Coach Kevin Muscat has been forced to look to his Foxtel National Youth League stocks in his extended squad.

Mark Milligan, Kosta Barbarouses, Connor Pain, Daniel Georgievski, Scott Galloway and Jason Geria are all unavailable through international duty.

While Milligan, Galloway and Geria were released from international duty after injury kept them in Melbourne for recovery, they are ineligible to play, even if fit, this weekend under FFA regulations.

Defender Matthieu Delpierre has been named in the extended squad, after missing the past two Hyundai A-League matches with a hamstring injury.

Youth League defensive midfielder Kieran Dover and defender Milos Ridesic, who have both been with the Youth League side for an extended period of time and train with the first team regularly, have been named in this weekend’s squad against rivals Sydney FC.

This weekend’s clash against Sydney FC will be for the beyondblue Cup. Despite the rivalry between the two sides, both are committed to the message that depression and anxiety don’t discriminate, and can affect anyone of any age and stage in life, particularly men. Head to beyondblue.org.au for more information about this important cause.
