Victory Women’s fantastic start set to continue

Melbourne Victory Women’s first home game attendance of close to 3000 spectators was a fantastic start to the club’s Westfield W-League campaign, according to Coach Matt Shepherd.

Melbourne Victory Women-s first home game attendance of close to 3000 spectators was a fantastic start to the club-s Westfield W-League campaign, according to Coach Matt Shepherd.

Fans rolled into the Telstra Dome on Saturday to catch a glimpse of Victory Women before the club-s Hyundai A-League match against Sydney FC, easily recording the largest Round 1 crowd of the new women-s national competition.

”It was a very encouraging start to the year to have as many supporters there having a look,” Shepherd said.

”Obviously we want people to get out and support the girls and support the Westfield W-League in general in this first season.

“We-ll now aim to have a really healthy crowd at our first stand-alone home match in a fortnight at Bob Jane Stadium.”

Victory Women will take on Perth Glory Women at Bob Jane Stadium on Saturday, 8 November.

The team will take on Sydney FC Women at Parramatta Stadium this Saturday, buoyed from a 2-0 triumph over Central Coast Mariners Women.

Shepherd said the team is determined to make Bob Jane Stadium its fortress this year.

“We were very determined before Saturday-s match to win as it was our home match, and we want to make it hard for teams to take the points off us at home in Melbourne,” he said.

”We have still got four matches in Melbourne to look forward to so hopefully the public get out and support us.”

Victory Women will also play one match at Epping Stadium this season.
