Victory Youth finalises squad

Melbourne Victory Youth has finalised its inaugural squad, signing five more players ahead of the side’s opening National Youth League match against Queensland Roar Youth at Green Gully Reserve this Friday (kick off 3:30pm).

Melbourne Victory Youth has finalised its inaugural squad, signing five more players ahead of the side-s opening National Youth League match against Queensland Roar Youth at Green Gully Reserve this Friday(kick off 3:30pm).

Cameron Drake, Milos Lujic, Dimitri Hatzimouratis and Qantas Young Socceroos Mathew Theodore and Ante Cicak boost Victory Youth-s squad to 12 on the eve of the new seven-team domestic competition.

Victory Youth Coach Mehmet Durakovic said the team is in good shape ahead of its maiden competitive appearance, which will be played two days before Victory-s Hyundai A-League clash against Roar at Telstra Dome.

“These five players add to what is a young and talented squad with a promising future,” Victory Youth Coach Mehmet Durakovic said.

“There-s a great buzz around training and all the boys are really looking forward to Friday-s match against Queensland Youth.

“The game is in the middle of the school holidays, so hopefully we can draw a healthy crowd to watch some entertaining football.”

Theodore, 19, and Cicak, 18, represented the Qantas Young Socceroos alongside Victory defender Sebastian Ryall at last year-s Weifang Cup, which saw Australia overcomeKorea Republic, Iran and Uzbekistan to win the tournament.

Drake, 20, was part of the Green Gully side that recently finished on top of the Victorian Premier League ladder, while Lujic and Hatzimouratis, both 18, have been signed from local outfits Oakleigh Cannons and Western Suburbs respectively.

Entry is free for all of Victory Youth-s home games in Melbourne, starting with the side-s first clash against Roar Youth at Green Gully Reserve this Friday (kick off 3:30pm).
