Melbourne Victory Football Club has thrown its support behind the YMCA City of Casey Youth Mentoring Program by offering participants complimentary tickets to two Melbourne Victory matches.
Melbourne Victory Football Club has thrown its support behind the YMCA City of Casey Youth Mentoring Program by offering participants complimentary tickets to two Melbourne Victory matches.
The YMCA Youth Mentoring program empowers young people in the community to make positive life choices that enable them to maximise their potential. School-based and community-based mentoring programs are delivered, targeting young people ‘at-risk- between the ages of seven and 17 years.
Fully screened and trained adult volunteer mentors commit to supporting, guiding and being a friend to a young person for a 12 month period. YMCA Mentoring means young people within the City of Casey who require support by a mentor, are given the opportunity to have a successful mentoring relationship where they feel safe, valued and empowered.
Successful mentors assist young people in need by committing one hour each week to spend with a young person by whom they were carefully matched to during a strict recruitment and match process. While spending time together is fun and social, the focus of this time is to assist the young person with developing and reaching positive academic, career and personal goals.
Cheryl Eyssens, YMCA Casey Region Youth Mentoring Specialist, said the opportunity to enjoy activities such as watching a Melbourne Victory game, would not normally be part of many of the targeted young people-s lives.
“We are extremely grateful to receive support from generous, community minded organisations such as Melbourne Victory who have provided youngsters with a chance to enjoy activities during their time together.”
“A number of young people in our program have displayed interest in the Melbourne Victory Football Club, and have now been able to watch their team in action for the first time. It-s a really positive outcome for all.”
Melbourne Victory was more than happy to assist the program and offer the participants complimentary tickets as part of the club-s extension to the broader community, by targeting young people in need.
